The incredible views and experience of touring Colorado including its majestic mountains and canyons, unique history and the intimate landscapes of the details of its terrain are quite different and in some ways more spectacular than just its famed Rocky Mountains. On this tour we will venture deep into the mountains and visit three of the state’s national parks, but will also travel on some of its most startling byways and discover some of its little known history along the way. Among our tour highlights will be visits to: Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park, a brief visit to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, the Silver Thread Highway, Ouray, Creede, the Royal Gorge, and many other outstanding sites.
We begin our journey in Denver, Colorado and head north to start in the magnificent Rocky Mountain National Park. The key to this tour and all of our other photographic adventure tours is our knowledge of the locations we visit during our travels. Rocky Mountain National Park like dozens of other national parks in the US and around the world can be visited and appreciated by most enthusiastic people who see the grandeur of these icons. The advantage of traveling with American Photo Tours is that we have expertise in knowing where and when to visit various places in these parks, and how to capture the essence of not just the great vistas of the parks themselves, but the hundreds of lesser known places outside the main stream of the casual traveler.
Colorado has hundreds of mountains, but it also has hundreds of miles of stunning canyons, a wide range of accessible wildlife and other landscapes to be explored and thoughtfully framed and preserved in digital images by our enthusiastic clients and fellow artists. We stop when we see something of interest, when the light is inspiring, when the rain stops and a rainbow appears, even when the snow comes in a squall and covers the land with a white layer of interesting sculpture dust. Over the years our fellow travelers have captured hundreds of small and intriguing features in the landscapes we have journeyed through, and all of us have been thrilled at the variety of things to capture.
On this journey, we will venture out to the plains a bit and see a unique site that was used by early Native American tribes to secure rainbow clays that they used for war and ceremonial face and body painting, as well as to color clay pots and other items in their daily lives. We will have the opportunity to go on a day long narrow gauge railroad excursion through one of two canyon systems in southern Colorado, capturing images of the beautiful countryside as we travel through these colorful and craggy landscapes. We will also have the opportunity to visit the oldest church in Colorado, the home of the greatest boxer in American sport history, and other ghost towns and abandoned mines, all in remote and quiet places where we can contemplate the scenery.
As we wander around in Great Sand Dunes National Park, we will also see the great peaks and ranges that surround this remote part of southern Colorado. This will be one of the highlights of the trip, and will be a keystone to our investigation of this part of the state. In fact, once we leave the rather congested area north and west of Denver, we will have the state pretty much to ourselves.
Come travel with us, and leave all the arrangements to American Photo Tours. We will take good care of you, and most importantly, we will get you to many of the most interesting and photogenic places in this very rich state.
